Hungry as the sea, by Wilbur SMITH

Présentation de l'Editeur

Wilbur Smith was born in Central Africa in 1933. He was educated at Michaelhouse and Rhodes University.
He became a full-time writter in 1964 after the sucessful publication of When the Lion Feeds, and has since written twenry-three novels, meticulously researched on his numerous expeditions worldwide.
He normally travels from November to February, often spending a month skiing in Switzerland, and visiting Australia and New Zealand for sea fishing. During his summer break, he visits environments as diverse as Alaska and the dwindling wilderness of the Africain interior. He has an abiding concern for the peoples and wildlife of his native continent, an interest strongly reflected in his novels.
He is married to Danielle, to whom his last nineteen books been dedicated.

WILBUR   SMITH
THE WORLD'S GREATEST AND MOST
POPULAR WRITER OF EPIC ADVENTURE

"Nick went head down, finning desperately to
catch the swirling body which tumbled like a leaf
in high wind. He had a fleeting glimpse of
Baker's face, contortd with terror and lack of
breath, the glass visor of his helmet already
swamping with cy water as the pressure spurted
through the non-return valve. The Chief's headset
microphone squealed once and then went
dead as the water shorted it out"

Robbed of his wife and ousted from his huge
shipping empire, Nick Berg is hell-bent on
vengeance. Lt is the sea which gives him his
opportunity. When his arch-rival's luxury liner
is trapped in the tempestuous Antarctic, Nick
stakes all to pit his powerful salvage tug, the
Warlock, in a desperate race against time and
the elements...

When the Lion Feeds

'François, how many men up at the face?'

'Cave-in.' François's voice was now hysterically shrill. 'Cave-in.' He broke Sean's grip and raced away towards the lift station, the mud flying from his gumboots. His terror infected Sean and he ran a dozen paces after François before he stopped himself. For precious seconds he wavered with fear slithering round like a reptile in his stomach; go back to call the others and perhaps die with them or follow François and live.

Into the wilds of Natal in the 1870s are born Sean and Garrick Courtney, the twin brothers who could not be more different. Fate, war and the jealous schemes of a woman are to drive them even further apart. But as history unfolds a continent is awakening. And on its horizon is the promise of fortune, adventure, destiny and love...

Men of Men

'Zouga never saw the command, probably the toe of her boot on the far side of Shooting Star's heaving chest; he had certainly not expected a show horse to have learned the low tricks of a polo pony. Shooting Star's huge sweatstreaked shoulder crashed into Tom, taking him in the short ribs with a force that drove the air out of him in a belching grunt, and as he was spun aside Tom chopped desperately to keep from falling, twisting and dropping to his kness, his nose on the ground, too tired and taken too unawares to meet the power of that ferocious barge'

It is the age of empire, of blood and conquest, of boundless excitement and possibility. Striding in the footsteps of the pionneers is Zouga Ballantyne. His dream begins in the danger and drudgery of the diamond pits and ends on the rich grasslands of Matabeleland - but not before a king and a proud warrior nation has paid the price of history...

Men of Men is now available from Mandarin.
